Understanding Pip Values

A "percentage in point" (pip) is a tiny measure of the change in a currency pair in the forex market. Because pairs are traded in different denominations, the absolute monetary value of one pip fluctuates wildly based on the quote currency and your account's base currency.

Why This Tool is Crucial:

  • Risk Accuracy: If you risk a 50-pip stop loss, you must know exactly how much that 50 pips is worth in dollars before hitting the buy button.
  • Cross Pair Variances: A pip in EUR/USD (when your account is in USD) has a fixed value, but a pip in GBP/JPY does NOT. Our tool calculates this dynamically based on real-time exchange rates.

Pro Tip: The classic rule is that 1 standard lot (100,000 units) equals $10 per pip when USD is the quote currency. Use this calculator whenever trading exotic pairs, as the pip value might only be $6 or $7 per standard lot!
